Make Your Own Website

There are quite a few ways to create your own website.

• You can hire a company to do it all for you (which can be very expensive)
• You can use free blog sites like wordpress or blogger
• You can purchase a domain name and hosting account then use it with wordpress.

Out of those three main ways my favorite option is the last one (purchase a domain name and hosting account, and use it with wordpress). This will cost you approximately $7-10/year for domain name and $10-$20/month for hosting.

I use http://www.godaddy.com for my domain names and http://www.hostgator.com for my hosting account. Both of these websites are very good at walking you through the purchasing process. Godaddy does have a lot of add on options. I never get any of them and if I get a good deal on a .com I will purchase it for multiple years at that price.  I have one hostgator account right now with 4 small websites hosted on it. As I grow them I will most likely switch to a reseller account but if you are just doing one or a few smaller sites, the $15 hosting account will be fine.

After you purchase your domain name and hosting account there are a couple things you will need to do.

1. Login to your control panel for hostgator
2. Get your nameserver information in your control panel sidebar
3. Login to your godaddy domain area
4. Change your nameservers
5. In your hostgator control panel scroll down to fantastico icon
6. Click on fantastico
7. Click on wordpress
8. Follow instructions to set up your wordpress installation

After that set up you are all set to go to your wordpress site and start adding content, making posts, selling your products or anything else you want to do.

Play around with the different options on wordpress to get familiar with it. It’s the best way to understand how it works and how to change things. (I will be creating additional videos on changing themes and more of the difficult things in the next few days).
